The Lynher hatchery is going from strength to strength as the volunteers who do the work gain more and more experience on how to treat the brood stock, maintain good clean incoming water, and make improvements to the equipment. Thousands of fry have been stocked at various locations and the healthy brood stock released back to the river. More information and up-to-date news can be found at The Lynher Association website

The Fowey hatchery at Wainsford has expanded to encompass The Camel river as well rearing in the region of 100,000 fry & fingerlings each year. All the broodstock fish are donated by anglers and the work there cannot function without your support donating fish. All our news and the blog are updated at The Fowey River Association website

Please put the Hatchery telephone number 07768 442159 in your mobile phone contact list now. We need coloured fish from 1 October. We will come and collect a fish from you at the river bank - or if you have access a fish can be secured in a carp sack allowing anglers to continue fishing. Please phone us if you are unsure - Thanks

Gravel Cleaning and conservation
It follows that if you are putting additional fish into the catchment you have to provide additional spawning gravels and the volunteers have again done a fantastic job up in the Draynes sanctuary. Work took place over fifteen Sunday mornings throughout the summer months and we have managed to clear an additional 500 metres of river bed in addition to maintaining the areas that were uncovered in recent years. Our annual survey of Salmon and Seatrout Redds, in the areas previously covered by weed and debris dams, have shown an increase from around six in year one to well over sixty in year four. The future of the fish stocks is in your hands, so please don't sit back and leave it all to others.

Next time you catch a fish - think before you kill it. Does the river need it more than you?
